Week 7
Did I miss a week?
Somehow my weeks are off. But since you stopped by, here's something for you...
Have you been following politics? It's a month before the election and things are getting nutty.
I enjoy engaging people in discussions about issues as long as they are that - discussions. Too many people are willing just to "yell at" instead of "talk to" each other.
This may reveal my bias, but I think things in the election are getting ugly. Negative campaigns are nothing new, but when people start yelling "Kill him!" at Mc Cain rallies, things have gone too far. I realize that Mc Cain supporters like Mc Cain. I also realize that Mc Cain supporters don't like Obama. I understand the motivation to paint Mc Cain as experienced and Obama as inexperienced. I don't understand the motivation to portray him as a terrorist. One of these men will be our president. The character assassination is one thing, but especially when it's an African American who's running for office, you have to wonder if Mc Cain isn't playing with fire here. By stirring up this sentiment and by not trying to tone down these comments shouted at rallies, we are now in dangerous territory. This does not bode well for our country.
Keith Olbermann's comments about John Mc Cain's rallies:
Go out and talk to people about politics. Engage in civil discourse. Listen to what other people have to say. I guarantee we're more alike than we realize. And even if we aren't, we still all have to live with each other!
