The McDonald's game was challenging. I had to use harmful by-products to acheive the goals, but I never succeeded, that was the challenge for me. I wanted to succeed without using those things. Everytime I played ended in bankruptcy, but I understand the principles behind the game, big businesses use horrible practices to attain their ultimate goals. I personally don't eat at McDonald's anymore and I agree with Kristie about how they prepare their food. A quick story, while in high school a friend of mine worked at a McDonald's and one of the managers would make the grill people use the hamburgers that would fall off the grill onto the dirty floor. They would scoop them back up and put them back on the grill, he believed in not wasting the food, it would have given him a bad record because of the food they threw away at the end of the night. I guess that McDonalds counted that against the manager, I dont know. Anyway, when he was found out they didn't fire him, he was reprimanded and they shipped him to a different store, mmmm isn't that just so nice of McDonalds. I also think Jacob makes a great point about how the game is getting the word out to larger audiences.

I'm hoping that I have the right location for posting...
...I have played the video game a few times and bankrupted the company each and every time. Did not realize how critical the instructions were, I was too eager to get started with "my business". Of course in real life I would be a lot more prepared. This video game made me realize how easy it is to loose money with your business following bad advice and/or not knowing what you are doing. - Aldijana
I played this game two weeks ago but on addicting games its called burger tycoon. It doesn't give you a choice about doing the right thing. You have to provide significant growth by selling more burgers and devastating more land. This is a game with no levels and no completion or end. It gives you plenty of options though: chemicals; leftovers; industrial waste; and GMOs. The game gives you a chance to sit in the seat of someone who wants to sell a decent product and increase profits for investors at the same time. The further you go, the more complicated it gets.

If you want to survive David is right. There is no choice but to do the wrong thing. Hopefully, that message is truly getting across. As I said on my page, looking through comments on gaming sites about the game, most of them focused on just whether the game was fun or not. Understandable to a point but to not have one person say anything else about the tone of the game, legal issues, or just the company itself was a bit disappointing. Perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough. There were a couple of blogs that mentioned the negative take the game has afterall. Well, off to try some of those other "anti-advergames." (Name being used to describe those video games flipping the script on games that are developed by companies in order to advertise their products).
Sad part is I actually enjoy McDonalds (from time to time - that stuff gets heavy).

I played the game, and lost. No surprise, since I don't play video games! Does give us something to think about, environmental damage, chemical control etc.
I don't like McDonalds food;however, they just opened up a great McDonalds cafe, rated better than starbucks!

My thoughts on McDonald's have been negative for a while. I don't eat there because of way they prepare their food. My husband's sisters both worked there at one time and the family will never eat there again. My experience with the game gave me an increased bad brand idea about the company. Because it was so hard for me to ethically deplete the rainforest, kill cows, overwork associates and cover-up the fact that I needed to pump hormones into the cows to make them grow fast enough to keep the company from going bankrupt, I lost EVERY time. I work for a large financial institution in the Tampa Bay Area. I am on 2 different committees within the company that decides where to allocate donated funds and what non-profit organizations to have our associates donate time to. The McDonald House was named in our meeting today and I was able to steer my group to not support this organization because of the fact that I played an online game and think that it is a possibility that the McDonald House was created solely to re-direct publicity to the good things the company does rather than all the bad. In my mind, the McDonald's brand is now tainted permanently because of the online game. All the more proof that perception is reality. Read more about my actual gaming experience Kristie.
Honestly I think it should be obvious, the effects of fast food and so on. Many things occur in the process of the food industry outside McDonalds and other fast food, yet even knowing those facts I still find others including myself eventually indulging afterwards. Now delving into the human condition and reasoning behind the decisions we make as a whole is not something that is going to be touched upon. They have been trying things like this for years in an attempt to make people aware of their surroundings and the effects of such. What they do not seem to understand is that if people cannot distinguish these things for themselves in the first place than the level of ignorance has exceeded the value of the knowledge, at least in my opinion. Without an open mind and willingness to learn and accept, there is nothing. Using propaghanda to influence the masses is due to that very fact, ignorance is bliss.

I actually played that game like a year or two ago. I just stumbled upon it one day and had a little fun. It's pretty hard but i think it's funny as hell. I am terrible at it....my cows always died and i went bankrupt. I used to eat McDonald's nearly every day when I lived in Michigan and was going to school. My rooomate and I couldn't cook....and I mean anything....once in awhile we would make spaghetti, but that's about as far as we got, and since we were both broke asses and didn't have jobs we would just end up at McDonald's ordering shit off the dollar menu nearly everyday....after awhile you really start to feel shitty. Especially in the Winter when it's negative 5 degrees out everyday and you just go eat the lowest grade shit known to man. It's basically one of the reasons I moved to Florida. I've tried a few fast food places down here and they really mess your food up...it's terrible...and an even bigger reason I don't eat fast food really is because of the people that work at those places....I understand your job sucks, but if you don't like it, don't do it....They all have atrocious attitudes and it pisses me off. I just really don't like someone who isnt grateful for what they have. I will say I do still eat Chic-Fil-A....they have delicious food and the people who work there aren't a bunch of angry assholes who screw up my food.....

So, I finally got around to playing the McDonald’s game. My first attempt, however, was definitely less than stellar. After about 15 minutes of pasteurizing, sowing, feeding, slaughtering, hiring, selling, and corrupting, I successfully managed to bankrupt the company.
My first thought on this game was, “Jeez, how funny is this?!” After a minute or two I really wasn’t enjoying it anymore. First off, I couldn’t freaking keep up. Every time I went to the board room to get nagged on by my VP I’d go back to the slaughterhouse and find I’d lost like 3 cows. So, then I’d go and pasteurize more soy for them and head back to the store and discover my line cook sucks and there’s no customers. On top of all that I had to kill a cow because I fed it bad food. I felt horrible. At one point I probably should’ve taken out that town and used the land for pastures and such. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
The concept of this game and all of its facets is ingenious. The insinuations as to how to run the business is not great. I mean, c’mon, there were like 5 different corruption options. Really?! WTF! It offers some disconcerting insight into how big companies might operate. Now, that’s not to say that the big companies, McDonald’s in this case, run exactly how they’re portrayed in this game. I’m sure, though, that they do engage in similar tactics at one point or another. I think I’m going to give the game another try, though. I’ll just have to get into a heartless, no holds barred state of mind before I start.
I used to love eating at McDonald's my early teen years. As I got older I realized how unhealthy it was haha. It's interesting to me how this video game was created to bash the McDonald's Corporation. I believe that the company has created the game themselves to get people talking. No publicity is bad publicity.
I found the game difficult to understand. I played a few times and lost all my money! I found the game to be hilarious but after playing for a few minutes I became immediately bored with it. I kept going back and forth from the farm to the board room but didn't understand how to keep my company afloat. I believe that no matter how much peo
ple are told about how the way the company is run, it will not effect the popularity of McDonald's. It will continue to be the most eaten at fast food resturant. - Nancy Assia
The McDonald's game was confusing and really hard to beat! I always went bankrupt which was very frustrating and annoying! It seems this game wants you to do bad things in order to win and that's what I find funny. Who knows who created this game, but I think it might have been the company itself to get people talking. Why not? I have not eate McDonald's for a really long time and I try to stay away from fast food altogether. Everytime I eat the food I feel GROSS! I guess I can't handle all that grease like I used to when I was younger. I used to love indulging in french fries, but those days had to come to an end not only because I felt BLAH, but because I could feel the pounds creeping! The closest I'll ever get to McDonald's again is by playing this game. None of that for me! -Tracy
