How to start a garden

1) Choose a plant native to your area

         - Beginners: choose something hearty and easy to grow

         - Find books, internet resources and garden center experts that can help you choose the right

           plant for your needs.

2) Find the right spot to plant your seeds or re-plant your plants

         - When you buy seeds or potted plants there is a card included that tell you what type of care

            that specific plant needs

For example: Water, sunlight, fertilization and soil needs

         - Find the right spot in your garden or room that provides the proper light for that plant

For example: Low light- shady or indoors, Indirect light- a spot that is shady part of the day

or shady to bright, Direct sunlight- little shade, a lot of sunlight

3) Prepare the soil

         - When planting outside: break up soil, add fresh soil and fertilizer

         - In a pot: add potting soil and fertilizer (make sure there is a hole in the bottom of the pot for

draining)-Do not pack the soil too tight, leave room for growth

         - Stick your finger in the soil to create a hole about one inch deep, add seeds and cover with soil

4) Continued Care

         - Water the plants according to their needs

         - Fertilize approximately once a month
