Just for Fun

I'm tired of not having a space to play, so here it is.

I stumble across too many interesting things not to share.

Continuing the open source argument through musical examples...

Listen to Bob Dylan's version first.

Then listen to Rage Against the Machine's version.

Really, what can you say after that other than wow.

What about making the jump from the Dead...

... to Sublime:

Listen to all the crazy influences! It's rappin' reggae and punked up folk rock. Crazy.

Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar" live from 1977:

Les Claypool and Primus' version:

Now for some old blues.  Blind Lemon Jefferson's original recording of a traditional song:

Here's Canned Heat doing their version of the same song.  I'm including it not because it's a better version, but it's worthwhile to see what what a party in 1968 might have looked like.

Sticking with the blues theme for a moment.  Here's a Robert Johnson tune called "Hot Tamales and They're Red Hot."

Here is the Red Hot Chili Peppers version of the same song.  Actually, many, many people have covered Robert Johnson tunes.  (Eric Clapton released a CD titled "Me and Mr. Johnson" in which he covers every single one of Johnson's songs.)

Add your covers and the originals here...
