Daily Agenda

March 9

Announcements:

No class-Nathaniel is sick-Morgan will get things started. Complete the work and I'll be available via email if you have questions.

1. Sign In

2. Questions regarding Portfolios?

3. Overview of Track Changes--you'll need this later in the class, so be sure you understand how to make changes, save them, etc.

For the remainder of the class, please add notes, etc., to this daily agenda as a way of conversation with me about what happened during the class.

4. Check In

Responses from clients regarding proposals? I haven't heard back from Bartlett. Group manager--Amanda?--Can you contact them and ask them if they've read the proposal and if they can get back to me about it? Let me know what they say.

     Ok, we will.

Amanda R- I received an email from Pat last night. She said our proposal sounded good so far. Her only concern remains that we emphasize their commitment to quality and the ACSI standards.

Peer Review--links to pages--clearly labeled so people can find them!

5. Midterm Reality Checks sent to me? Make sure they're sent to me via email.

6. Progress Report Reviews - at sentence level

You should all have a progress report posted on your wiki page.  Review the other two groups' progress reports at both the content and sentence level. Post these reviews linked to their project page and your own peer review page. You can review these as individuals or groups, but be sure to include your names on the review so you get credit!

a. Pay particular attention to the sentence level, using the explanation in the book to guide your review.

b. Move the document into a word document and use track changes to mark up the documents at the sentence level. You can do this project individually or as a group--just be sure to put your names on the changed document so you get credit for doing it.

c. Be sure to include the following in your review:

        Active Voice

        Strong, Precise Verbs

Nominalizations to Verbs - Actors Subjects of those Verbs

Main verb quickly in the sentence

d. Complete the Progress Report Writing Workshop pp 231-232 for both of the other progress reports

7. As a class, discuss any ethical challenges you are encountering at this point. Concerns? Write up a brief overview of what you discussed and post it on this Daily Agenda page.

Participants- Amanda Richards, Karega Hall, Orve Johannson, and Amanda Sliby.

Bartlett Ethical concerns- The client was concerned with some of their word choices in their proposal. They did not want them to use phrases like "underprivliged". And they did not want it to sound like the neighborhood needs help, they do not really. They want it to have more of a tone of a service that is there.

MZHS Handbook- Pat has stressed that we keep the Christian based values of the organization in mind. She is also concerned that we keep the accreditataion rubric in mind when composing the handbook. Their goal is to be seen as moving towards continuous improvement.

8.  Project Review:  Bartlett review Mt. Zion Brochure

Mt. Zion Brochure review Mt. Zion Handbook

                              Mt. Zion Handbook review Bartlett

Using the above assignments, discuss and review drafts of projects--using whatever makes the most sense for the project (Track changes, marking up a hard copy, discussing changes). Be sure to spend some time in small groups discussing audience, purpose, context, etc.. You should also be aware of this information from reading the proposal and progress reports. Each group should post a list of changes here (on this daily agenda) of those items that you want to work on/change in the coming two weeks. You will be bringing a revised draft of your project to class on Monday, March 23.

Bartlett and MZHS Brochure do not have project drafts up yet.

9. Choose an activity on pp 233-236 and write about it--posting it on your individual wiki page.

10. Clear/Muddiest Point--if there is something that is working particularly well, but most especially if there is anything you are confused about, please send me an email at the end of class.

11. Grammar Presentations--we'll put these off until the week after spring break. Sorry about that, but I want to be there when you present.

Important Note:  Your revised drafts based on your peer reviews of your Progress Report are due by Thursday, March 12. I will read them, and get my comments back to you by Monday, March 16th. Your final drafts are due by the beginning of class on Monday, March 23.

Let me know if you have any questions!
