Recursive Public Response

“Geeks and Recursive Publics” was an intriguing article for me because of Sean and Adrian’s involvement in the Medical field. I worked for a doctor who likes to run her office the “old way” and it was completely archaic. However I also experience how my mother runs her office, and though she is not the doctor she is in charge of how the office runs. Her patients are set up with their own email accounts, all the charting is electronics, so basically the internet is used all the time in daily functions. I don’t think that the office would run the same if they were not using this system. Her patients seem to be much happier with the efficiency of the office than the patients that were coming to the doctor I was working for who were constantly complaining. I really like this idea of using the internet in the medical field because I think that it could drastically improve the quality of start-to-finish care.

I think that the idea of recursive public is hard to wrap your mind around. It is much bigger and complex then people can think about. Human beings tend to think very linearly and the idea of recursive public is much more dynamic. Like Adrian and Sean though, coming together for a common goal or interest is the driving force. Adrian and Sean had a much larger picture than money making; it was to build a better Medical system. With the internet the possibilities are seemingly endless when people come together and create resources that are educating and beneficial to society. But like in the case of Napster, government or law steps in and the resources are taken away from us.
