6:00-6:15 Housekeeping and Game Planning

Gamers,

Notice the new detailed script that will regulate our expository flow from now 'til the end of the game. What does it mean when you see your name slated into a time slot? It means that you are in charge of limiting our focus for that time period. Prepare by selecting text on this wiki and pasting it + plus urls under your time slot. We will focus on copy-editing, developmental/content editing, and close revisions of the text and ideas you isolate for our attention. You can trade slots, of course.

I'd like to take both of my papers my Definitional and my Causal arguments and rip them apart. I would like to maybe find a direction to take my writing to the next level and create my final portfolio. I want to see what everyone wants to know more about and what they want to know less about. I want to see if I am rambling or if I am going in the right direction and just need to expand.

Maybe I would like to expand my work into the gaming aspect of comics books. Also I would like to relate the comics to the video games based on them, and maybe relate them to more TV shows like Heroes. I would like dive into the world of comics as a business enterprise maybe. I'm not sure but I would like to see where I can expand and improve.

I'd like to do something a little more interactive in class, something that involves my final project. It'll be sort of like a mass interview with two parts. I'll make a PaGe for it, including some sites which help to illustrate my ideas. We can discuss which rhetorical modes work with gaming and how they work, as well as which each student prefers when they are gaming. Here is my final project proposal:

I'm going to look into aspects of the modes of persuasion of rhetoric in the gaming world. I'm going to delve into each mode and how they affect video games. Example: using pathos in a game's storyline to motivate the player, or logos to solve a puzzle within a game, etc. Also, I will apply the modes of persuasion in looking at why people play games. My purpose in using the modes of persuasion of rhetoric is to look at the gaming phenomenon from several different views and how these different views may affect players.

This is a column I wrote in community college called "Five Mile Radius." I wrote this particular column because we were having difficulties in our newsroom, and I wanted to unite us as a team. I am posting the text of this column here. Even though I didn't pull it out of the wiki, I think we can have some fun with what I've written. It's about the similarities most Americans share. Enjoy!

Americans. Each is different, unique, special and intelligent in their own way. Every American would argue and say that it’s true because we are all ‘individuals.’

If all Americans are individuals, then why are there so many singers who look and sound the same? Why does every politician run for the same principles and values? Why do we drive the same cars, and wear the same clothes, and shop at the same stores if we are all individuals?

Would it be wrong to say that we aren’t? Would I be committing treason if I claimed we had more in common than we could ever dare to think? Am I out of line to say that we all come out of the same mold?

Is it a lie? Are we really out of the same mold? Are we Barbie doll figurines?

We could sit down and scream for hours about how we are all different and unique. We probably wouldn’t accomplish finding much more than our own ignorance.

But what about all the things we have in common. There are plenty of things Americans have in common. Nobody ever seems to think about those.

Don’t forget that the points I’m making don’t necessarily apply to everyone. However, I think most of these bits will identify with many people.

For starters, most Americans had a family member that arrived in this country by boat. If not by boat, then by foot. If not by foot, then by some other method of transportation.

Most Americans have eaten at McDonalds.

Most Americans have a divorced relative.

Most Americans drive or knows someone that drives a Chevy or a Ford, or some other domestic car.

Most Americans fight with their parents.

Most Americans have shopped at WalMart, or K-Mart, or Target.

Most Americans have heard a country music song.

Most Americans have a collection of grocery bags in the closet “just to have on hand.”

Most Americans identify with some cartoon character from their childhood.

Most Americans have done, or has seen someone do drugs.

Most Americans had an imaginary friend.

Most Americans have been visited by a door to door evangelist.

Most Americans have had macaroni and cheese.

Most Americans remember when they met Mickey Mouse…

See! We have a lot in common. As much as we are pressed to be original. As Americans, we need to remember our similarities. The things we have in common, are things that help make us the nation that we are.

I think this is a good piece to share with you all because we have a lot of things in common, the items listed above AND THIS WIKI! I think we should add or subtract from the list, and define how these commonalties are alike the rest of the world.

Check out the links, they're kind of fun!
